Oops! Please don't use phrases imported from $FOREIGN if you don't have at least a superficial knowledge of $FOREIGN. The phrase is "bon mot" (pronounced "baw mow", roughly). Why didn't he write it as "bonne motte"?
- davidivadavid 3y agoLooks like something that could easily result from autocorrect.
- philipov 3y agoThe embarrassment is staggering; I bet that's why zeke is using a faux name.
- xapata 3y ago> The phrase is "bon mot" (pronounced "baw mow", roughly) You pronounce either "bon mot" or "baw mow" differently than I do.
- denton-scratch 3y ago"Baw mow" is my attempt to write down how a typical Englishman who knows some French might say it. A "typical Englishman" generally has an awful French accent. I don't know how to represent a real French accent phonetically! (IPA is beyond me)
- xapata 3y agoTo be fair, the typical French person has a thick accent in English. While the "n" in "bon" isn't strong, it's still there. Or half there. Hard to describe. I'm not familiar with IPA either.
