A review of Number Go Up, on crypto shenanigans
- colesantiago 3y agoThis book is essential reading in knowing about the entire crypto scam, lies and grifting, I cannot recommend this enough. An absolutely well written book, this is perhaps the best book on crypto documenting the worst financial fraud this century has seen. There is no hope for crypto, and I hope for more books that document it's downfall rather than its imaginary utopian 'upside' as there are none.
- philipov 3y agoAt first I thought this was referring to Folding Ideas' 2022 documentary on NFTs, "Line Goes Up", but it turns out this new book was just released. Here is the documentary for those interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ_xWvX1n9g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQ_xWvX1n9g
- pchristensen 3y ago"Zeke expresses some level of forward-looking regret that he might never get handed as juicy a story as crypto was in 2021 and 2022. There still exists juice, Zeke! Go get the juice! You still have a de facto worldwide monopoly on juicing! The rest of financial journalism cannot find an apple in an orchard at harvest time!"
- denton-scratch 3y agoI gave up about 1/3 of the way through; prose was too flowery, content was thin. > coined the best bon motte about the conspiracy Oops! Please don't use phrases imported from $FOREIGN if you don't have at least a superficial knowledge of $FOREIGN. The phrase is "bon mot" (pronounced "baw mow", roughly). Why didn't he write it as "bonne motte"?
- davidivadavid 3y agoLooks like something that could easily result from autocorrect.
- philipov 3y agoThe embarrassment is staggering; I bet that's why zeke is using a faux name.
- xapata 3y ago> The phrase is "bon mot" (pronounced "baw mow", roughly) You pronounce either "bon mot" or "baw mow" differently than I do.
- denton-scratch 3y ago"Baw mow" is my attempt to write down how a typical Englishman who knows some French might say it. A "typical Englishman" generally has an awful French accent. I don't know how to represent a real French accent phonetically! (IPA is beyond me)
- xapata 3y agoTo be fair, the typical French person has a thick accent in English. While the "n" in "bon" isn't strong, it's still there. Or half there. Hard to describe. I'm not familiar with IPA either.
