Do you need to be on Twitter?
- meristohm 3y agoNope; happily free of Twitter since 2019. I like talking with people when I'm feeling social, and for information I like the public library (and of course hn, now and then).
- ggm 3y agoIf you are on the path of independent content creation and have a specific, fixed purpose in mind then it's no different to any other form of promotion of content, and will be viewed as such. If you seek meaningful dialogue then as Abraham Lincoln famously tweeted after the battle of cannae: "fuck no"
- billybuckwheat 3y agoNever had a Twitter account (or any account with other social media service). And guess what? I don't feel less informed, less connected, or less anything. To quote someone (sorry, don't remember who) email is my social media. So is meeting people face-to-face.
- gregjor 3y agoNo. You don’t need to live in a dumpster either.
- k310 3y agoSome people feel that it's needed to notify others of actual items of importance, but non-paying folks only see the OP ( or is it OT? or OX? ) And of course, any replies are likely drowned out by conspiracy theorists. If one wanted to notify a scientific or other community, what would you recommend? Hacker News? ( Works for me! ) Never used twitter/X. Never will. If I reference something there, I post a screenshot, to keep the clicks down.
