Covid levels are so high, they’re hovering near 2020’s initial peak
- gardenfelder 3y ago>U.S. COVID infections are hovering near levels of the pandemic’s first peak in 2020, and approaching the Delta peak of late 2021, according to wastewater surveillance and modeling by forecasters.
- hackermatic 3y agoAnother good source for current news on COVID is the People's CDC weekly weather reports: https://peoplescdc.org/weatherreports/ https://peoplescdc.org/weatherreports/
- kbelder 3y agoWhich reaction is more likely: Oh, we better mask up and start distancing like in the 2020's Oh, I guess we overreacted to Covid in the 2020's.
- cableshaft 3y agoWe knew almost nothing about Covid back then and especially not how to treat it. We didn’t overreact then.
- anjel 3y agoWorse still, in 2020 our immune systems knew nothing about Covid, which is what made it so deadly as to implement measures now decried as excessive in an effort to buy time slowing the spread until it was no longer a 'novel' infection.
- cuteboy19 3y agoThe people who would have died have already died (thankfully?)
- jfengel 3y agoProbably the latter, but the situations aren't comparable. COVID is much less deadly than it was three years ago. Vaccinated people test positive but have little to no symptoms. The latest variant appears less deadly even to the unvaccinated. And we now have treatments. Masking and distancing is still a good idea -- not because COVID is deadlier than flu, but because we should have been doing it for flu all along. It's an easy way to prevent a disease that causes a lot of harm. People shouldn't have to wait for apocalypses to to take easy measures that make the world better.
