Wha?! Because, religion! They are abominations! Not really, but in history children born out of wedlock were freely discriminated against, assumed to be subhuman and criminal, and killed without repercussion. It would be reasonable, extrapolating from (recent) history, to assume artificial humans would instantly be put in that category.
