Ask HN: Websites you check regularly (except socials)

9 points by blackhaj7 3y ago

What sites other than social media and hacker news do you enjoy visiting? I am trying to quit social media and have a more healthy internet usage. But in doing so I have realised that I basically don't know of many good/interesting/fun/informative alternatives to check (I already do a lot of stuff outside of "checking the internet" so I am not looking for alternatives to screen time, rather, interesting places to spend my screen time)

Depending on your interests there are a lot of blogs out there. Beautiful Public Data (https://www.beautifulpublicdata.com/ https://www.beautifulpublicdata.com/) is one of my best finds. Others I read via RSS include: Wladimir Palant's blog 'Almost Secure' https://palant.info/articles/ https://palant.info/articles/ Ctrl.blog https://www.ctrl.blog/ https://www.ctrl.blog/ Troy Hunt's blog https://www.troyhunt.com/ https://www.troyhunt.com/ Molly White's newsletter https://newsletter.mollywhite.net https://newsletter.mollywhite.net

In the US I love https://weather.gov https://weather.gov. It's not the prettiest or the most user friendly but there are no ads

I check this every week. It's a good non-biased overview of world events and things the MSM is typically ignoring and propagandizing other topics: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Current_events https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal:Current_events
