This sounds like a pretty big negative to me
- mypastself 3y agoFor sure, it’s one of the characteristics that distinguishes a Pi as a server from a regular old, much cheaper, laptop.
- jacooper 3y agoPower efficiency? I doubt your old laptop is as efficient as a pi.
- mypastself 3y agoHence the “one of” part of my comment. But the cooling and noise are definitely relevant.
- 7speter 3y agoRaspberry pis use a lot less power too
- rewmie 3y ago> This sounds like a pretty big negative to me It might be possible to take a page out of macbook's playbook and put together a case that doubles as a heat sink. It's a tradeoff between compactness and target temperature. By the way, the RPi4 had already a very nasty overheating issue.
- diffeomorphism 3y agoThat also sounds just plain wrong. > https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/introducing-raspberry-pi-5/ https://www.raspberrypi.com/news/introducing-raspberry-pi-5/ > Raspberry Pi 5 has been designed to handle typical client workloads, uncased, with no active cooling. For "untypical loads" you can get a case and/or a fan or just make it run slightly slower.
