KDE for Gamers – Enjoy Your Games on Plasma and Linux
- Am4TIfIsER0ppos 3y agoI already do so what is this? An ad for steam, bottles, some native games classics. I don't think moddable ui widgets will help my games because they draw them all themselves. The interesting thing might the linked presentation about kde and the steam deck which I will have to watch later.
- chalsprhebaodu 3y agoPerhaps it’s not a page made entirely for you and instead it’s to show off the lesser-known fact that Linux is a viable OS for gaming, that you can even use Steam, many of the games in your existing game library will work, and they’re making it clear that gaming is a use-case they’re looking to nurture and improve going forward.
- xinayder 3y agoIt's also interesting that Bottles is a Gnome app. And I don't know why they promoted Bottles and not Lutris when the latter is way more popular and just works.
- phone8675309 3y agoLutris is mentioned further down the page.
- Am4TIfIsER0ppos 3y agoYeah. The linked video is interesting. Highlights how some people had already used it by 2023-01-24. A little behind the scenes work from the contractor(s) hired to work on plasma. Reminds me I need to finish configuring power settings. I think I now know who to blame for ruining Spectacle: Valve. Nice work on making it worse. I have no idea how this new one is more "streamlined". > The only way to install applications is flatpak Make your software run elsewhere other your own computer. Seriously I hope that isn't true because I was under impression that you could put your own software on it.
- hersko 3y agoIs there a performance difference running a AAA game between between this and the native steam deck software?
- phone8675309 3y agoNo. If you're running a game through Steam on your Linux PC and running that same game on the Steam Deck then you're running the same compatibility layer on both so there should be no performance difference because of the software. There may be a performance difference based on if the CPU or GPU in your PC is slower or faster than the Steam Deck.
- Cloudef 3y agoIf you run game fullscreen then maybe no as i think kde disables compositing and does direct drm flip for the game in that scenario
- fomine3 3y agoSome argue that precompiled shader cache is a Steam Deck's (or fixed hardware game console's) advantage
- p4bl0 3y agoOther "KDE for" pages: - developers: https://kde.org/for/developers/ https://kde.org/for/developers/ - kids: https://kde.org/for/kids/ https://kde.org/for/kids/ - creators: https://kde.org/for/creators/ https://kde.org/for/creators/ - scientists: https://kde.org/for/scientists/ https://kde.org/for/scientists/ - activists: https://kde.org/for/activists/ https://kde.org/for/activists/ - travelers: https://kde.org/for/travelers/ https://kde.org/for/travelers/ I really like this approach of show-casing their apps and others through usage profile :).
