It wasn't too different 20 years ago, when social media starter. The cool kids were cool and boasted lots of attention. Celeb idolization was also strong back then. But I guess kids these days don't cover every inch of their room with celeb posters, or purchase monthly / weekly magazines dedicated to single celebs - as you'll be getting that in your social media feed. The big difference today is that the tech has gotten a lot better, not to mention addictive. Social validation can be addictive.
