The desal plant in Sydney cost $2B. The cost of simply keeping it turned off is $500,000 a day. Simply building bigger dam walls would be a far better choice.

- regularfry 3y agoThat sounds like a 10 year straight-line amortisation rather than an operational expense. Is that the actual operational cost?
- Grimburger 3y ago$500k a day is the operational, this is without it pumping a single litre of water. Not sure how much it is when operating. Raising the few dam walls that service Sydney is nowhere near the same cost but people are very angry about it ever happening because it would basically remove entire flood zones from the planning maps and encourage development in their areas.
