The last thing I'd want to do is to throw cold water on this. On the other hand, there are far more families than you think where two or more members are permanently estranged. "Overcoming your upbringing" is the pertinent struggle for lots more. And "spending more time with family" is a good way to destroy their mental health. Not me, of course /s But hey, if that works for you, then great.
