I really don't understand smart home hardware companies forcing communication through the cloud over local control. Do they think that they can get you hooked on the cloud and then charge you a monthly fee to turn on your lights?
Plus, they just pushed a Matter update which I think allows for local control. This seems like a good way to get people to sign in to setup matter and then never open the Hue app again.

- bombcar 3y agoIt's exactly that. they think they can become a Lightbulb-as-a-Service company. Insane.
- callalex 3y agoKnowing how many people are home, when they are home, and what rooms they occupy is data that can be sold and is sold for several dollars a month. The point is to stalk you and manipulate you.
- darksensei 3y agoThe Matter update is only for the hub to expose the devices connected to it over Matter, the bulbs themselves are still zigbee only. Better than nothing still.
