For what it's worth, I use zigbee for my smart home, with a hubitat. It's connected to homekit, and it's been painless (except for the part where you have to manually add things to homekit from the hubitat). Thread/matter promise to put this garbage to sleep, finally. The smart-home offerings from the major vendors allow all devices, without vendorlock (so far).
