Quora is garbage and always has been. For a while people thought it was going to be the place where smart insiders provided great answers. Then it turned into another spammy Q&A site that forces you to log in..because VCs need their money.
- joelthelion 3y agoFor a short period of time it was indeed a good place to get answers from knowledgeable people, and they allowed a wider range of questions than Stack Exchange, which was nice. But it's been complete garbage for several years now. The space is ripe for disruption :)
- FartyMcFarter 3y agoYeah I used to be delighted every time I received the weekly digest in my email. Nowadays I still read it ocasionally, but it's mostly garbage unfortunately.
- iteratethis 3y agoThe disruption needed is to keep it small and focuses on quality. Every platform that has its "eternal september" ends up ruined in the way you describe.
- joelthelion 3y agoFor Quora, they made an active decision to destroy the nice credit economics system that was in place and push garbage, sensational questions and answers. It doesn't have to be that way.
- garfieldnate 3y agoBack in 2013 or so Quora was absolutely amazing, flowing with content so fascinating and enriching that I had to unsubscribe from updates because I would just spend my entire day reading there. I was sad to come back many years later and find it mostly overtaken by ads and spam.
- joshspankit 3y agoIt feels like it’s time for Quora to sunset. It had it’s moment and that moment was glorious, but now as Dr. Kelly Starrett says “You can’t make a bad position good by shoving it in to a good position. You have to start over.”
