Sure, if the business units make money, that's good to offset costs, but at the end of the day, if Google is paying $120B over 10 years to keep Google as the default search engine for Apple devices, they're making more than $120B over 10 years on Apple users. Not to mention that Google can do first party ad injection on results to shift people towards Android, decreasing the cost per user for impressions and sucking more data out of them to again, fuel the ad machine.
