1. Yes 2. No, I was able to get a job lined up even before my last day 3. No. Employers understand layoffs happen, so I don't think it looks bad on a CV that you get laid off. Some people in my life put a stigma on not working, but I'm good at not letting their opinions affect me personally. I do think this stigma exists, in a sense of suffering as a virtue (so if you aren't working, you aren't virtuous). I think there's a valid concern from people uniquely in the US around having certain benefits lapse (health insurance being the biggest one), so a there's a ton of pressure to get back to work ASAP.
