He was 52. She was 21. It shades into "barely legal" porn. Nothing wrong with a big age difference per se but it can be a case of the entire reason someone is interested is the not quite kiddie porn angle.

  Huh, 21 is old enough for anyone to start taking decisions on their own. 18, sure, it might have been questionable, even if legal. Not to mention, Cleopatra was 21 and already stirring up more than enough shit than most of the 40-50 year olds of her time were - combined.

    I don't disagree. That's just probably not the reason it would be "hot" to a lot of people. I'm not the person who put this limitation on Bing. I'm just speculating as to why it's there.

Maybe you meant "she" as 21 is near the peak of attractiveness for females. For some reason many of them don't accept the fact that it's something that dwindles with time. Which is sad because if you accept it upfront, you get less frustrated when gradually men start paying less attention and so on.

        I'm still waiting for that magical moment when men pay less creepy attention to me and find me old and ugly enough to talk to me about my professional interests and not in hopes of getting my phone number. On the upside, I am old and ugly enough to get cat called less by random strangers.

        Men mating with younger women is just statistics. The average age of fertile men is considerably higher than the average age of fertile women, so all else being equal we should expect to see older men pairing with younger women. No -isms are necessary. Now evidently many post-fertile women are annoyed by this reality, but oh well that’s life. Likewise younger men just have to deal with the fact that women in their age group are generally going to be more attracted to older men. I hear that the dating scene for young men is pretty brutal these days, but at least they can look forward to it getting better.

  There's a lot of reasonable age gap discourse, but two adults at the peak of their local power structures twenty centuries ago is not really an ambiguous case. History is full of far, far worse situations of child brides in dynastic marriages.

  I've never heard such a strange opinion in my life, ever. What is the threshold for JC not to fall into the "barely legal porn" territory? Would 38 be still fine? How do you define it? If you were there, would you try to persuade Cleopatra not to have any relations with JC? What if she insisted and you had the power to stop her? I'm really curious how far you would go.

Really irrelevant sidetrack: I always think not of the 1972 "Anthony and Cleopatra" film (Charles Heston, Elizabeth Taylor) but of the 1971 Morcambe and Wise parody version with Glenda Jackson. It's been a while since Hollywood has done a "swords and sandals" film, hasn't it?
