Post-NCLB, already-low amounts of recess time in many public elementary schools dropped a bunch and never rebounded. Schools are desperate to show the required improvement YoY in math and reading, so they cut time for things like music and recess to get more time for those subjects. I think my kids get half or less as much recess time as I did in the same grades. Sucks.
