This is the area I am most interested in. I have personal experience where every member of my division (~25-30 people, including my manager) was laid off and received severance. I was deemed too important and should stick around the empty office or move to remote work. I would have rather received a severance package and moved on. Employment lawyers confirmed that this was okay, and it just sucks to be me.
Now I'm in a gig that's WFH, with quite a few teammates also WFH, but we're effectively local to an office. There's a real possibility of my company making one of these descend on the office policies, and I will be left out of a severance package a second time. The state of worker rights is awful.
