Epic hasn't done anything particularly bad for PC gaming, and while I love Valve's contributions to Linux gaming, I don't think Steam is nearly as great as most people seem to think it is. Their client is slow, always updates at inconvenient times, and it's got gimmicks I don't want like card packs.
I like Steam, because they were the first to really push digital downloads in the PC market. They made it relatively easy to purchase games compared to everyone else, and their client is way better than Origin or whatever garbage Ubisoft uses now. But let's not act like Steam is perfect here; if every games store is taking 30%, then YOU the consumer is paying higher prices in the end.
- rowanG077 3y agoThe question of monopoly vs duopoly is too simplistic. Do question is do. Do you want a monopoly where the monopolist has a multi-decade long proven track record of integrate and has the customer well being as a focus. Or do you want a duopoly where the ecosystem is fractured and one is actively working to ruin the ecosystem. The answer for me. Please, pretty please with a cherry on top, give me the monopoly.
