One of my few non-libertarian opinions of "how things should be" is that somebody should find an ADA angle to make sites requiring scripting completely illegal, with very narrow exceptions like games. Equivalent functionality in HTML, or pay damages cause screen readers, or something. I the site with the complexity of GMail can do it, so can vast majority of the internet.
Modern Javascript functionality on an average site adds as much value as sparks chasing the mouse pointer in the nineties, and appear to be developed by people with, again on average, even less aptitude for software.
