I kind of intend to have this conversation with relatives. It's kind of the argument they might have given a troubled teen. "Is this really how you want to live your life? You're angry and grumpy all the time. That's no way to live your life. Anger's only useful in so far as it prompts and empowers you to counter whatever is angering you. Anger over something someone else does or is (like being trans, gay, or voting differently) versus say being a violent threat, then, can't ever be corrected by yourself - and you're just making yourself miserable." Maybe toss in something about "people have always been doing things other people would be furious over. Yet prior to this latest stuff humans went from the trees to the moon."
(kind of like we need a societal re-introduction of privacy ala the social media equivalent of wearing clothes. Some onion-layered facade to diminish personal attacks.)
Family's constantly worked up and often outraged over hypothetical scenarios. I remember someone in this sphere years ago asking me about some rage inducing scenario. When I showed him it was purely false and outlandish, he was let down! Would have seemed to prefer it to be true! "Oh I was so ready to be angry about that! Imagine!" (paraphrase)
