> On the other hand, a lot more changed from 1984-2004 than from 2004-2023. Windows XP is conceptually the same as Windows 10, macOS, or GNOME today, even though details between implementations differ, and a Pentium 4 is essentially the same as a modern CPU, except slower.
This is also my takeaway here. I'm pretty sure that someone who first used a computer with a typical 2023 setup, Win10 and all, would pretty easily figure out a typical 2004 PC with Windows XP, Internet Explorer or early Firefox, etc. But going back even ten years from 2004 is more different, you'd be on Windows 3.1, which looks quite different and requires familiarity with different workflows. 1984 is radically different as the typical machines were all CLI/TUI and required machine-specific knowledge to work on, you couldn't just figure it out by looking at it.
