  The Chinese EVs seem as safe as any European EV. - Instead of tariffs, why not compulsory long warranty? (say, 10 years) It would benefit the consumer, the environment, and prevent sweatshops at the country of manufacture. Surely European cars can compete on quality against outsiders…

        I believe “they” are the European governments who would’ve otherwise received tax revenue from tariffs, versus “they” being the foreign car manufacturers.
