Why Is American Healthcare So Expensive?
- version_five 3y agoThe US has socialized healthcare, it's just run my insurance companies. That means it has all the bad incentives of socialized healthcare, ie the incentive is to minimize (locally) the amount of care provided, and it also has all the price gouging that comes from private companies being in charge of health. Lose/lose. The solution is charging per use for primary care, and insurance for big stuff.
- wrycoder 3y agoI got a bill for a 7K$ CT scan. Medicare paid 1.5K$, and 5.5K$ was "contractually adjusted" out. My share was $46. So you need to offset the Hollywood accounting when you say American healthcare is expensive.
- gtvwill 3y agoIs the answer capitalism? Because I'm pretty sure it's entirely capitalism. Regulated markets under the guise of free protect profits of the few at the cost of the masses. 2023 and y'all still don't have free universal healthcare. Backwards society that spends too much time fighting and harming itself for a profit. Cost + shareholder profit is always > cost alone.
