What's Happening to Visual Studio for Mac?
- aaronarduino 3y agoThis news is really disappointing to me because as a C# dev I am losing a quality native editor. Guess I’m either fully moving to vim or begrudgingly dealing with VSCode.
- andyjohnson0 3y agoA real shame. To me, VS for Mac seemed to be converging on the level of product functionality/quality I associate with VS on Windows, only for me to find that its going away... Seems like VS Code + C# Dev Kit is going to be the future [1]. I've been using VS/Mac for some MAUI and Xamarin development and, while I can probably continue to work on Maui in VS Code with C# Dev Kit and another extension, there doesn't appear to be a way forward for Xamarin. And for some reason I find VS Code, with all its extensions, about as friendly as Eclipse (which is to say, not much). I much prefer the kind of integrated, native experience that Visual Studio provides (and without the Electron bloat). - neonsunset 3y agoIf you find VS Code lacking or inadequate to your needs, Rider usually completely closes the gap (and often tends to work better than VS).
- musicale 3y agoI miss native desktop apps and native UI controls.
- tomaszs 3y agoSeems like JetBrains Rider will take everyone onboard if VSC won't catch up fast https://tomaszs2.medium.com/microsofts-phasing-out-visual-studio-for-macos-force-moves-developers-to-visual-studio-code-16182121f609 https://tomaszs2.medium.com/microsofts-phasing-out-visual-st...
