I don't deny that there are other providers. I don't begrudge anyone the choice of a provider; choose whatever service works best for you. This thread did not begin with an expression of personal choice, it began with a wish for nihilistic extinction.
It doesn't matter who you want to disappear. Let's say I hate Amazon AWS and I wished that their cloud services would go away. I don't use AWS because they're terrible and I want all my associates to stop using AWS. So AWS goes away.
What happens then? Have people been given ample space to choose another? Is this just an alternate universe where AWS never existed, or did their service just vanish suddenly and take everyone with it?
I mean, it's like saying, I wish Australia would go away. I wish Europe didn't exist. Yeah you don't have to live there, or purchase their products, but some people would miss it, and they're sort of part of the economy. Major parts.
Gmail and Outlook constitute 900-pound-gorillas in the email-provider space. Yahoo! perhaps a distant third? No business in their right mind will choose Protonmail, or GMX, for 50,000 employees and billion-dollar revenues. How many sysadmins are running around making OwnCloud work at a Fortune 500 firm?
Honestly, I get it, I wanted Microsoft to shrivel up and die when I was a young adult. I was a staunch Unix defender and it was my way or the highway. It's easy to resent someone's business practices when you're not in business or you don't rely on providers for essential services. But, evil or not, Google is part of the world's infrastructure, so it's not realistic or productive to wish them into the cornfield, Anthony. It's a Good Life, okay?
