- m463 3y agoI think the gates drive is nice though - no chain to maintain. As for single speed - I think this is less of a big deal when you have pedal assist. The best optimization would be to pair the gates belt drive with a nuvinci hub. - bafe 3y agoI agree! I have a cargo bike with a gates drive. Mine is a mid-drive, therefore it is paired with a nexus hub. This has some advantages over rear hub drive, including a much more smooth delivery of power thanks to the inclusion of a torque sensor. If you have an hub drive I don't think you can pair it with a nuvinci unless it is an integrated motor+gear hub, which I haven't seen yet.
