I love me a matrix sequencer, but they don't easily convey things like dynamics, or tempo changes, or key changes. It also requires a score for an 88 key piano be 88 rows tall. A 4 bar rest and 64 16th notes also all have the same length in the sequencer, which is some times helpful but often not helpful. The Ableton Push sequencer is also designed with using it in a scale-only mode in mind. It gets a fair bit uglier if you enable chromatic mode.
