Yelp names and shames businesses paying for 5-star reviews
- thedaly 3y agoWhy is yelp doing this? I always thought that they forced some amount of pay to play on businesses that participate in their service.
- SonOfKyuss 3y agoYelp wants Yelp to get paid, not someone else.
- more_corn 3y agoIronic that this complaint is from the same people who’ve been repeatedly caught selling better placement to those who pay. “Yelp sort” is the default and is basically “paid accounts first”.
- SushiHippie 3y agoWhy are all of these 'suspicious' companies in CA?
- toss1 3y ago>>This year, the Federal Trade Commission proposed a ban on "the use of deceptive reviews and testimonials," with penalties up to $50,000 for businesses "caught buying, selling or manipulating online reviews"... Needs to be $50k per incident and also cover soliciting or placing false negative reviews on competitor's products/pages/sites.
- myvoiceismypass 3y agoI am seeing dispensaries in CA listed, where you get a discount if you show them a 5 star review on yelp, etc (which I do see advertised in stores quite often, I guess)
