France aims to discourage buying of Chinese EVs
- ClassyJacket 3y agoThen we need non-Chinese competition - including competing on price. In Australia there's simply nothing close on price and functionality to BYD and MG, both Chinese. I imagine the situation in France is similar. The cheapest Tesla is about 20,000$ more than the cheapest MG. Toyota should have been leading competition on electric cars. How sad they're ignoring them.
- ZeroGravitas 3y agoThe headline kind of buries the lede. They're actually redoing their EV incentives to take into account carbon in manufacturing. Which is a good thing. They claim that it's got an ulterior motive to prefer locally made cars, which may be true, but this kind of carbon trade tariff is a vastly underused tool in battling climate change.
