Someone connected an iPhone 15 to an Android phone via USB-C
- jauntywundrkind 3y agoIn USB4, device-to-device networking is - I believe - mandatory! Power delivery is still a race condition: whomever advertises first becomes the "battery". It'd be dead easy to put a delay-power-advertisement configurability in to escape the race-condition but no one does. I think Android phones used to expose mass-storage devices better, likely with FAT32 or exFAT partitions. More recently most will probably expose just MTP or PTP, a more file-oriented alternative, which yeah, I can see iPhone not supporting. But what happens if you plug a hard drive into an iphone? Can it read that? Yes? Then some Android phones should be able to show up on iphone. But admittedly I think this capability has been somewhat left behind. And maybe there's just bad electrical implementations somewhere making this all much worse. I'll have to try android-to-android sometime! This all should be such a basic part of any #ubicomp system.
