UK's Online Safety Bill finally passed by parliament
- tentacleuno 3y agoSo, what's happening with Signal in the UK? They've previously said to the BBC that they would withdraw their services if this bill were to make its way into Law[0]. [0]: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-64584001 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-64584001
- blentrop 3y agoThe last paragraph in the article says: "Earlier this month, junior minister Stephen Parkinson appeared to concede ground, saying in parliament's upper chamber that Ofcom would only require them to scan content where "technically feasible"." By this I understand that all communication needs to be scanned except End To End Encryption where is not "technically feasible"
- Mindwipe 3y agoThere's secondary supporting legislation needs to go in and a framework from Ofcom yet. Signal indicated they'd leave of those went in.
- stuaxo 3y ago"finally passed" isn't how I would have headlined this, interesting choice by Reuters.
- bloqs 3y agoI cant believe it, they actually did it
- brokenmachine 3y agoThank god! We don't have to worry any more now. Everyone is safe online. /s
