I have a cervical spinal cord injury that results in quadriplegia: i'm the specified target of study for this kind of trial.
I hope this trial finds people braver than I am.
The thought of losing more ability (and as a volunteer this time) , compounded with the fact that this study will essentially invalidate participation in any future BCI study (they all have the "No prior brain implantation or pacemaker." clause) makes it a very hard proposition for me.
Godspeed to our willing participants that want to help spur innovation. I hope that regardless of the outcome of this particular study that it helps them to find purpose and reason, and that their sacrifice w.r.t the pain and suffering associated with medical treatment helps move everybody towards the common goal of commoditization of BCI both for the benefit of those unable as well as healthy and willing participants.
I'm a big believer in the worlds that such devices may unlock for humanity, as scary or awe-inspiring as the premise of a connected-brain may be.
