I attended a presentation of the nouveau drivers at FOSDEM circa 2010. Until then I was quite supportive of the initiative. Then the presentation started, headed by two young guys, still students from what I understood. They basically explained how they reversed the drivers and did a lot of trial and error, how they recently fixed a bug where the fan of the card was on 100% of the time, etc. I left the presentation feeling very unsure on whether I should actually let that driver use my graphics card, and ended up reinstalling binary blobs. Never tried noubeau again since then. Is it actually 100% non destructive for your card nowadays?
