I'm surprised I haven't heard this argument more. It's an absurd amount of javascript.[0] I'd think the effect on battery life would be at least as important to many people as the bandwidth of loading it. [0] Just checked, and I get 8.22Mb of heavily compressed JS to load Gmail!
