funny enough the journal apps / notes apps that live inside people's computers / phones are useless for future generations or ya kids. when you die and no one knows your password what happens ? whereas a notebook - people can easily read or try to if your handwriting isn't legible. the notebook will remain the same 200 years from now. if humans can still read handwriting. sometimes no-tech is the best tech.

As a counterpoint, it takes a lot less effort to keep a file preserved. A fire-and-flood-proof document storage solution would certainly be a lot more work for me than setting my google/govt. data up so people in my life get access to what they need.

Is that necessarily a bad thing? A notebook isn’t nearly as meticulous as every semi anonymous post I’ve ever made to Reddit or discord or whatever, plus my meme image collection, my browsing history, etc Why should my kids and future generations get access to my shameful secrets just because I’m dead? If i wanted that information hidden, shouldn’t it stay that way? To that end I suppose it’s just the philosophical argument of “is it shitty to read someone’s diary after they die?” but with the stakes increased a bit due to the nature of greatly increased data collection

Some writers burn their manuscripts. Phone calls generally aren't recorded. There is historical value to VIPs leaving behind diaries in which they discuss their thoughts and feelings around important events.
