You realize holding a group of people up as idols that can do no wrong is just as de-humanizing and bigoted as calling them savages right?
The idea that you should continuously look into the past and constantly change the names of things like it's actually going to make the past atrocity go away is pretty laughable.
- buzzdenver 3y agoSo in your view all genocide is justified because statistically no large group of people is all saints? The idea is not to make past atrocities go away, but to point out if certain participants were more of a good guy or bad guy. Or gal. Naming a mountain/street/whatever after you, or having a statue is a sign that you are considered a good guy. So this decision reverses that.
- hooverd 3y agoNative Americans were no angels, so it's okay to vaporize a dishonored governor who went back on his word to massacre a village? Could you point to where I or anyone else are "holding a group of people [the Arapaho/Cheyenne] up as idols that can do no wrong"? Anyways, there's a difference between memorializing and valorizing. There should be a Sand Creek memorial, not a Mount Evans.
