China's spy balloon: What we've learned [video][5 mins]
- toasterblender 3y agoThank you for putting the time in the title.
- mtmail 3y agoMost of the video retells the news stories from back then, bit added interviews with the first photographer, jet pilot, joint chief of staff. Based on the video - ballon didn’t spy. Sensors were not activated over USA - likely unexpected wind blew it off its course - politicians overreacted “but by then the [diplomacy] damage was done”
- audunw 3y ago> politicians overreacted Did they? What I haven’t heard an answer to yet is.. why didn’t China say anything? Seems like common courtesy if you’re accidentally flying a balloon with enough power and equipment to do pretty sophisticated spying over a country.. is to like, pick up a phone and call the authorities in that country and give them a heads up. No? Even if it wasn’t so full of equipment it’d be reasonable to expect a notification if you’re unexpectedly flying over another country. That was my thought when hearing about it the first time. I never thought it likely that it was actually spying, but it was still shitty behaviour from China.
