Poll: Rewriting popular programs in Rust is a good practice
Just wanted to see what the community generally thinks about Rust.
- kstenerud 3y agoThis isn't going to show what the community generally thinks about rust. Rewriting a popular program is a huge, bug-ridden, incompatibility-generating exercise. I wouldn't advocate rewriting a popular program in any language - unless its downsides in its current form are so glaring that a rewrite is in fact the best solution. And then the choice of language would depend on what features the program needs most.
- gorenb 3y agoI generally believe that if you have the time, making a program memory-safe is a good idea. Honestly, when people make open-source clones of software, I think that's a very good thing. Not only can this help the community have memory-safe code to read, learn from, and use, but it can also help you get better as a programmer.
