Show HN: Boomer Death Watch
After Jimmy Buffett died I wondered how many Baby Boomer icons* were left. Thanks to WikiData we can try to find out, but that query is hella slow (there are a lot). What's fast, however, is finding everyone who has died recently.
*Anyone with an English Wikipedia page. Sorry Dennis Austin.
- simonblack 3y agoWhy a 'Boomer' death watch particularly? There is a watershed moment that all animals go through. When both of your parents have died, there is the sense that 'You're next on the chopping block. Your time is short.' And of course, you don't have to be a 'Boomer' to die. You might die like many icons do at the age of 27.

- HotGarbage 3y agoBetter said than I. But really it was inspired by https://web.archive.org/web/20060901175623/http://www.boomerdeathclock.com/deadlist.htm https://web.archive.org/web/20060901175623/http://www.boomer...
- simonblack 3y agoDo you think all those houses that the Boomers currently live in will remain empty, and therefore the housing prices will fall? If you think that, I have a lovely bridge for you. House prices are caused by supply and demand. The population is constantly growing, Millennials, Boomers, Gen-Xs, and all. There is no way that house prices will fall to any great extent because there is always a shortage of housing. A couple of Boomers die, so what? Their places, and a lot more, are taken up by people coming into the country, or being born, every day. And for every thousand extra people, we're going to need an extra 400 houses.
