The title is editorialized, the original title is "Income-based U.S. household carbon footprints (1990–2019) offer new insights on emissions inequality and climate finance" and the abstract says "In 2019, fully 40% of total U.S. emissions were associated with income flows to the highest earning 10% of households".
- somedude895 3y ago"associated with income flows" Yeah so the editorialized title is ignorant at best and deliberately misleading at worst. I've flagged it.
- refurb 3y agoI mean that seems entirely intuitive. Most income flows involve emissions. So the highest income have the highest emissions from income flows. Did the authors somehow think this wasn’t true?
- suckitsam 3y ago"Top X% of earners/producers responsible for the top Y% of production/expenditures/consumption" is a whole genre. It's great because the top 10% are bad and the rest of us are good. I'll hide under my bed (where I recycle my straw wrappers) if you show me global numbers.
