I suspect it's still cheaper than Taxis would have been without it existing especially counting for inflation. But then, the biggest issue being solved wasn't price it was availability. You could call for a Taxi at a craft-beer pub in Texas in 2010 and it was a crap shoot the thing ever arrived or if it did maybe an hour later.
