- mortureb 3y agoI’m confused. They say he was dead. Was the kidney working for two months in a deceased body?
- spondylosaurus 3y agoSort of. They implanted the kidney in a man who was brain dead, but not dead dead. So the kidney worked, just not in a true living recipient.
- hulitu 3y ago> So the kidney worked, just not in a true living recipient In the spirit of "the operation was a success, but the patient is dead" or "the launch was a success but the rocket crashed" or "the self driving car needs a driver". /s
- sigmar 3y agoThe link in the article "After wrestling with the choice" has more coverage of the procedure. It says they initially only intended to have the experiment last a month, but it was going so well that they asked permission of his sister to delay the memorial and extend one more month.
- spondylosaurus 3y agoAh, that makes sense. Very kind of his sister to grant them permission; I think this research will help a lot of people someday.
