Before considering what makes "the best game console", consider what makes "a good game console".
* does it run majority of existing game titles?
* if no, are a large number of game-changer titles expected any time soon?
* if no, by the time iPhone has earned it's stripes as a game console, will the iPhone 15 Pro still be competitive?
Kick-ass GPU with hardware raytrace capabilities isn't worth a dime as long as it's hidden behind Apple's Metal API, alien to 99% of existing games.

Like yeah, it’s some work, but they already need to do it to target the range of console specific APIs and ISV specific features/behaviour. The rest of the OS APIs/behaviour for networking and filesystem access is just about as divergent across systems. Yet nobody mentions those.. As always, it just comes down to market share and makeup. The players on a mobile phone are very different types of customers than on console, and the expectations are different. Even if they end up being the same people, they don’t act the same. In terms of market share though, Apple is an interesting place where they now have a very significant unified market share. Their entire ecosystem from phones , tablets and computers share one architecture and capability set. So now it’s just really down to strategy to incentivize devs, same as any other console on the market
