I only drink Coca-Cola when there's no alternative, I find it bland and all three versions far too sweet (but Pepsi is even sweeter). Even then, it has to carbonated and chilled, it's just horrible when warm and flat. How people can drink anything that sweet out of choice beats me.
For years, I've wondered why I was among the few who would much prefer to drink something else—I kept asking myself why wasn't I getting the enjoyment from it that others seemingly were. When others were drinking Coke I'd be drinking beer.
Well, I reckon that doco has finally answered it for me, especially the section about blind tastings consistently ranking New Coke ahead of Pepsi and classic Coke. It's familiarity and advertising that accounts for its popularity and their effects come well ahead of taste.
Maybe that I've always gone out of my way to avoid viewing advertising—especially on TV—that also has something to do with it. If asked to describe any Coke ad on TV there's no way I could do so.
