Tucker Carlson, Viktor Orbán and the Anti-Democracy Playbook
- kordlessagain 3y agoThe fact is, any narcissist practicing politics will always claim whatever it takes to not be wrong. They think the way they see the world is fact and the words they use only serve to tell the rest of us we are wrong. The key to seeing this clearly is flipping whatever they say back around on themselves, because when they get to the malignant stage everything is projection.
- BoiledCabbage 3y agoEssentially, a number of parties recently have decided their opinions can't win democratically so as a result they will overturn democracy. The crazy thing is how openly they are telling about it, or how so many of their supporters or those in the fence are denying that is they playbook even when their groups "thought leaders" are openly saying that is their plan. It's this weird partnership of typical authoritarianistic "the ends justify the means", and the naive "yah that's just their rhetoric, but they won't actually do what they're saying they'll do." There are a ton of parallels with early 20th century happening right now worldwide. Including the growing inequality that leads to societal instability due to a recent technology revolution, and groups feeling that "anything is justified now" because of past actions. We are literally one economic down turn from the stones of democracy beginning to fall worldwide. And when everyone looks back at history books and says "How did they let this happen? How did noone see it coming?", it's exactly this. People openly shouting their plans, and others having a combination of thinking it's worth destroying institutions to get what they want, people in denial of what's happening via boiling the frog, and others unable to imagine it could ever happen in their part of the world because those things happen elsewhere. This is the most dangerous time for democracy since the 1930s and I'm hoping people appreciate what they can lose before it's gone.
