Nitinol is not "NASA's metal". It was developed at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory, which is where the last three letters of nitinol come from.

  Dang it, you beat me to it. Nitinol is also not "bizarre" -- it's well understood and very common.

    Bizarre does not mean not understood nor uncommon; it means strange/unusual. When it comes to the behavior of a metal material, this is unusual.
