I don't think people should be put in jail for cannabis. However, we shouldn't be devoting our tier 1 retail space or having startups with massive advertising budgets pushing it.
It should be sold as a generic drug by pharmacies that make most of their business from other drugs not dispensary entrepreneurs creating massive retail brands like alcohol.
- eep_social 3y agoSure let’s please do the same for alcohol and caffeine.
- l33t7332273 3y agoWhat is the health justification for banning caffeine?
- eep_social 3y agoI was going over the top because gp is insinuating a moral argument rather than a health argument based on their interpretation of a bad headline. Cannabis Use Disorder is not the same as occasionally puffing a doobie with Alice on the weekend. > Caffeine starts off as a physical addiction unlike marijuana. Caffeine also does not require a lot of use from the substance in order to become physically addicted, unlike marijuana. When both substances are consumed in large amounts both have equally terrible withdrawal effects.
- thsksbd 3y agoAnd aside from the jitters, what harm does caffeine cause? Does it cause break downs in families and car fatalities like alcohol? Does it trigger latent schizophrenia in susceptible individuals like canabis? Does it create zombies like whatever it is they're consuming in San Fran?
- grugagag 3y agoCaffeine does cause insomnia which in turn causes other mental healh problems. I have one cup of coffee in the morning but there was a time when I was having 4-5 cups and it was affecting my healh negatively.
- thsksbd 3y agoSo does artificial light, probably more drastically than an afternoon caffeine. But is there a well established causal chain of coffee drinkers hurting others from their coffee induced insomnia mental breakdown?
- eep_social 3y agoIf you had read my comment and wanted to engage, the answer was right there: > physical addiction.. withdrawal
- thsksbd 3y agoYou want to compare a day with a bad headache from caffeine withdrawal to the devastation caused by schizophrenia? To car crashes? And who are coffee's non-using victims? Co-workers putting up with Mr. Grouchie for a day or two?
- thsksbd 3y agoCould we start a conversation on the externalities of alcohol consumption? That'd be great. Lets start by putting a 100% sales tax + $1/50ml ethanol on alcohol. Let's see how inelastic alcohol consumption really is.

- mr_toad 3y agoSome countries already tax spirits at around 100%. Wine and beer usually less.

- teen 3y agoit's def not as bad as alcohol... considering alcohol causes drunk driving, liver issues, obesity, stomach cancer, domestic violence
- ForestCritter 3y agoRegular Marijuana use has a high domestic violence rate.

- BirAdam 3y agoI feel like you’re being quite morally prescriptive and advocating legislation on that basis. Is your life so grand or so poor that you cannot empathize with those who’d seek a high from something rather benign?
- aurareturn 3y agoIt's anything but benign.
- daft_pink 3y agoI think this is actually a reasonable middle ground. People who want to get high can do so cheaply, without brands with large marketing budgets pushing people to do it and having drug dealers in our central business districts.
- Gigachad 3y agoCapitalism says if people are willing to pay money for a product, then that product can buy retail space and have marketing budgets.
- fragmede 3y agoAnd the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement (MSA) says that we can restrict retail space and advertising venues for some products deemed harmful, especially around children.
- andrewstuart 3y agoI certainly agree with this. In Australia, tobacco is sold behind the counter. Tobacco has plain packaging and there is no advertising or promotion. This is the way marijuana should be sold - cheap, clean, legal, available, but behind the counter and not advertised or promoted. It should not be like California or Thailand where you can go to cafes or marijuana shops. Marijuana should not be treated as alcohol however - advertised, commercialised and glorified. Available, cheap, clean is enough.
- tester756 3y ago>having startups with massive advertising budgets pushing it. Hah, in my country 10-15 years ago there was huge brainwash movement pushing pro-marihuana narration, mostly music/rap/etc communities
