Show HN: Ever Been Rated by an AI Date? Try Dating Playground and Get Feedback
Hey HackerNews folks!
I first launched DatingAI.pro to help people improve their dating profiles, get reply suggestions, etc but to that I got feedback where people pointed out that someone could just impersonate their entire profile which made sense and I thought what if I could actually help people really get better at texting or conversations by giving them feedback and letting them improve via suggestions.
I understand a human date can't be replaced but certainly we could help to an extent.
NOTE - THIS IS NOT AN AI GIRLFRIEND.
This is how it works:
1. Swipe from profiles of the opposite gender and then you're matched with someone.
2. Start an engaging chat & earn or lose points based on your charm (or lack thereof).
3. Simultaneously get reply suggestions to navigate the conversation.
4. Receive a final verdict: Would they like to go out on a date with you?
And the best part? Those points aren't just for bragging rights they can be redeemed them for other features in the tool. Think of it as a dating simulator with tangible rewards.
Would love to know your thoughts

- pedalpete 3y agoI initially wanted to like this, but the website made me feel really creepy (I'm not dating though, so I'm not your target audience). You say "swipe profiles of the opposite gender", why would gender matter to an AI? As in, why wouldn't you just say "what type of person are you interested in", and have all the options. Again, the AI doesn't care what your interest is, it just needs to have some idea of how to behave. Ok, so I kinda tried it, and now I see, you don't "require" opposite sex, you just say "what are you interested in. I'd think Bi people wouldn't want to have to choose, so maybe an "both" or "either" option would work (? - ask a Bi person, don't go on my recommendation). So now I'm getting a tinder like experience, and I swiped right. But I have to keep swiping? Why? It's an AI, it isn't going to "choose" me, so why make me go though the pain of waiting to find out if she is going to talk to me? The "generate opening lines" is a title I don't like, and then you want me to past something from somebody elses bio? How did I get to someone's bio? Was I supposed to know to copy that at some point? Anyway, I'm not a target user, but I think you need a bunch of work on UX/UI, and really figure out what problem you're trying to solve, and if this is even the right way to solve it.
- akaushik759 3y agoHi pedalpete, thanks for trying out. Just for v1 sake we tried to focus on straight people and make it right for them first before trying to build it for everyone, hence the "opposite gender" phrase. You have to keep swiping because we wanted to make an exact simulation + to add the thrill of it, if we just directly match you with someone it kinda becomes monotonous, so a gamified experience. Generating opening lines for your matches on dating apps, so you have to copy their bio and paste it

- mensetmanusman 3y agoGrandma has been finally replaced.
- tomwojcik 3y agoLooks fun. After starting a conversation I got "disallowed user agent" from google. I opened your project in an unofficial HN app (Harmonic). You might want to address that.
- akaushik759 3y agoThat's new. On it. Thanks for mentioning
- ianbicking 3y agoJust messing around, I'm not dating so it's purely FOR SCIENCE. The scoring seems pretty random. I worked hard on my first one and got a 6/10. Asking for a date seems to be verboten, but don't people do that in dating apps? Maybe improved on my second one and got 8/10. Tried to bomb my third one by talking all about my best friend Clarence, a fish, who is sometimes inappropriate. Got a 6/10 which seemed awfully generous. Finally bombed the next one and got 4/10 after being really weird and kind of creepy. Then finished with a trolling chat and got 8/10, which really broke my faith in the system. The individual chat score seemed kind of random too and didn't offer enough fine-grained feedback. Why did I get +100 on some and +50 on others? (The -100/-50 were all me being terrible, so I understood those.) Honestly trolling on the app is maybe too fun.
- akaushik759 3y agoWill improve this, I understand when the convo goes very random then the scores go haywire too. Improving with feedback and iterations. Thanks
- squeaky-clean 3y agoSo I thought it'd be funny to give this a try. Swiped right on Sofia, the artist, and got "Looks like you've got no matches". Refreshed and tried again, swiping on the same "person". It just showed me more matches, and after swiping left on them I again got the page about having no matches. Very realistic experience of Tinder I suppose, but I'm not sure why you would do that on your simulator app. Edit: Tried one final time, swiping right on everyone, because apparently swiping on the woman that seems like the best personality match doesn't work. Matched with Anna, but there doesn't seem to be any way to view her "profile" so I have no idea which AI woman this is supposed to be. I messaged her that I was impressed she was a Rally racecar driver, which I know was not one of the options, and she just rolled with it and I got a +100. This definitely needs more work. > Oh, that's cool! Yeah, I do rally races sometimes. My most recent race was the XYZ Rally Championship. And now it's requiring me to sign up, without any prompt before that this was necessary. I signed up with a throwaway email and tried to jailbreak the LLM and still got a 7/10. Also just noticed no responses to this post and no comments at all on an account since 2019.
- akaushik759 3y agoHey thanks for pointing it out. The signup thing was intended so that people don't exploit it with chats and I can track if someone plays around with messages. Thanks for the jailbreak attempt, will make sure you get 0 next time Mmm, I'm a very active reader here, not participated much in discussions tho
